InDesign Seminar Recap: (Slide
Show)
On
November 10, 2008 JAM had its InDesign
Seminar featuring Bob Levine. The informative lecture covered
many of the latest features of Indesign, which included doing
rollovers, PDF form entry boxes, and integration with Web design.
A picture layout in was also demonstrated and made into a Flash
photo gallery. Indesign's compatibility with other publishing
packages, such as Quark Express, was also discussed.

Flash
CS4 (Character movement)
Realistic
character movement in Flash CS4.
Animating human figures has always been a challenge, and doing
so in flash was once a chore. However, Flash CS4 addresses some
of these issues by offering Inverse Kinematics that can be used
via the bone tool. This new tool allows the user to create a skeletal
bone layout that can be moved at the joints. Think of process
as movable scaffolding. Before Flash offered this feature you
would have to create the characters appendages separately and
connect them using pivot points. The main drawback in this process
is that the characters moved in a stiff and rigid manner. If you
wanted to avoid even using this technique altogether you could
move your characters like South-Park cutouts.
Inverse Kinematic gives your figures fluid and realistic movement.
The bone tool seems to realistically emulate how the human skeletal
systems functions. Before Flash CS4 offered this feature there
where a few third party programs you could use to accomplish realistic
human movement. I found one of these programs on the internet
called Express
Animator. It is a relatively inexpensive solution for creating
Inverse Kinematics. Click here
if you want to see a demonstration of this feature in Flash CS4.

If you have not already found out Adobe has changed the way
its user groups are setup. The old system has been replaced with
a new setup that allows user groups to be better integrated into
adobe's own site. All the group sites are now stored on Adobe's
data base. Each group has been given a standard website template
that they can modify. These new sites come standard with such
additions as a message board, blogs, and an announcement page.
We still have our old site up and functioning, but the main site
is now the one on the Adobe server.
The address for our new site is below. (To be more involved it
is wise to get an Adobe profile)
